Convalescent home for injured soldiers
Country estates were transformed into convalescent homes where St John Ambulance and the British Red Cross nurses could tend to soldiers injured during the Second World War, as shown in this watercolour. These homes provided an essential place for physical and emotional rehabilitation. This sketch is one of several designs for a 3-dimensional diorama taken around the country to raise money for the Joint War Organisation.
