The St John Archive comprises material relating to the modern Order of St John in England, the St John Ambulance Association (1877 - 1968), St John Ambulance Brigade (1888 - 1968), St John Ambulance (1968 - present), St John's work overseas, and collections of personal papers of individuals connected with St John.

A large proportion of the collection relates to the governance and administration of the St John Ambulance Association and St John Ambulance Brigade via their headquarters at St John's Gate, Clerkenwell, as well as the activities of Association Centres and Brigade Divisions in the London and Kent area. However, there are instances of records relating to wider national Association Centres and Brigade Divisions, as well as a substantial collection of material relating to the Association and Brigade overseas.

Please note, this catalogue largely covers the founding records of the Association and Brigade up to 1939, and does not encompass the full extent of the St John Archive held at the Museum of the Order St John. Please contact the Archivist to enquire about records contained in the Archive post-1939, and records not included in the catalogued collections.
