Queen Elizabeth II inspecting members of the St John Ambulance Brigade
The inspection held on 12 May 1956 required months of preparation. Volunteers came from all over the United Kingdom and overseas. Unlike King George V, who rode through the lined-up volunteers on horseback, Queen Elizabeth went through Hyde Park standing in a Land Rover, smiling and nodding as she passed.
