Queen Elizabeth inspecting members of the St John Ambulance Brigade
On 12 May 1956, Queen Elizabeth II, the Sovereign Head of the Order of St John, inspected over 22,000 members in Hyde Park. This marked the first time since 1912 that a reigning sovereign had reviewed the St John Ambulance Brigade. Following her arrival, the Queen, accompanied by the Grand Prior, slowly drove along each rank of the uniformed members.
