Queen Elizabeth II inspecting members of the St John Ambulance Brigade
On 12 May 1956, 22,000 members of the St John Ambulance Brigade gathered in Hyde Park for a parade and an inspection by Queen Elizabeth. According to the press, the Queen was very pleased with their voluntary service, calling them a ‘smart and efficient organisation’.
