Now, final preparations are being made in order to present the spectacular exhibition ‘1565 – The Great Siege of Malta’ which will be open to the public from September 4 to December 6, 2015 at the Palace State Rooms of the Grand Master’s Palace in Valletta.

Boasting around 170 artifacts which are both locally and internationally based, this exhibition will unravel the narrative of the establishment of the Order of St John, the religious and the political aspects of Europe and the Mediterranean which developed in the 16th century, the arrival of the Order in Malta and the consequences which eventually led to the uplifting of the Great Siege, the proceedings of the siege itself, and how the outcome of this epic battle acted as a catalytic event in shaping and making a modern day Malta.

Co-organized with the National Library of Malta, the exhibition will illustrate various significant episodes by displaying relative crucial and important documents, such as the Papal Bull of 1113 when Pope Paschal II approved the foundation of the Order of St John, and spy documents which forewarned the Order about the imminent massive Ottoman attack of 1565.

The set up of this exhibition will be spread within five rooms of the Grand Master’s Palace, three of which have rarely, if at all, ever been seen by the public. Each of these rooms have their own story to tell and so, besides the allure of the Great Siege exhibition, visitors can also enjoy discovering the interesting history and character of this historical building.
