An Ambulance Member receiving a nursing bursary from Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother
In 1970, Lady Moyra Brown (who can be seen in the background of this photograph) was appointed Superintendent-in-Chief after twenty years in St John Ambulance. She initiated the St John Year of Nursing in 1980, which saw the creation of three annual sponsored nursing bursaries and a significant increase in the number of male members taking the nursing certificate.
