Service Medal of the Order of St John
The design of the obverse of the Service Medal has remained the same since it was instituted in 1899. In 2019 Queen Elizabeth II, Sovereign Head, and the Grand Prior approved an update of the inscription in English on the reverse of the medal to reflect the current structure of the Order, and the words ‘FOR SERVICE’ were added to indicate the nature of the award.
