Rene Jacob de Tigne
Rene Jacob de Tigne was an experienced and dedicated military engineer for the Order. This portrait was likely commissioned to celebrate the opening of Fort Tigne, the building he is pointing to in the background of the painting. The fort was the last fortification to be built on Malta, and the last to surrender to the Napoleonic fleet in 1798.
