Messina Earthquake

Letters concerning the work performed by a detachment of British first aid personnel (including members of the St John Ambulance Association’s Malta Centre) sent from Malta to Calabria, Italy, to assist with the earthquake in Messina in 1908, and recognition for the Centre’s personnel who were involved. Also included is an article on ‘The Order of the Crown of Italy’ from The Lancet, dated 25 March 1911, which concerns recognition of those involved.

Correspondents include The Right Reverend The Lord Bishop of Gibraltar William Edward Collins, Sir Herbert Charles Perrott, R.H. Brade, Lieutenant W.R. Gatt (Honorary Secretary of the SJAA Malta Centre), Colonel Sir Herbert Jeckyll, and Sir Rennell Rodd.
