Mobile VAD Badges
The Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) programme began in 1909 when the British Red Cross and The Order of St John joined together to avoid duplicating effort. VADs were classified as ‘mobile’ or ‘immobile’; 'mobile' could serve anywhere they were needed, while those classified as 'immobile' would serve close to their home.
