Post Office Ambulance Centre First Aid Challenge Shield awarded to W.H. Broom
The Post Office Ambulance Centre’s headquarters were in Mount Pleasant, with branches across London. They trained Post Office personnel in first aid and nursing. A doctor from the Medical department provided the lectures, which were followed by practical work and an examination. Those who passed were qualified to join any of the Post Office department St John Ambulance Brigade divisions, and many would enter competitions with their division.
