The vehicle depot for St John Ambulance Transport Service in South Australia
The site at Hindmarsh, Adelaide, was the central vehicle depot for South Australia’s St John Ambulance Transport Service from its inception in 1951 until the early 1990s. In the 1960s, St John was the only ambulance service in South Australia. As such, ambulances had to be built and modified by volunteers, and they would often convert vehicles like Ford Customlines, Chrysler Royals and Holden Panel Vans.
