Today, St John Ambulance volunteers wear a green uniform, which stands out and makes them clearly visible. Previous iterations of the St John Ambulance Brigade uniform were in black and white, and at times, Ambulance Members were mistaken for the Police. The very early uniform in this photograph is very smart, and the members wore it with pride.
