A View of Grand Harbour
This watercolour looks out over the Grand Harbour from Valetta to Vittoriosa, now and historically called Birgu. After the Great Siege of Malta in 1565, the Knights of the Order of St John gave the city the title Città Vittoriosa (Italian for "Victorious City") to honour its role in defending Malta against attack from the Ottoman Empire.
