St John's Gate

This view of St John’s Gate depicts the façade when the building was home to The Old Jerusalem Tavern, a public house run by wine and spirit merchant Samuel Wickens. The shop frontages, one of which bears Wickens’ name, were removed during the renovations carried out by architect John Oldrid Scott at the end of the 19th century.
