Order of St John Breast Badge of a Serving Brother
Originally, there were two grades of Serving Brothers or Sisters: Honorary and Effective. The first appointment of an Honorary Serving Brother was made on 29 November 1892 to Mr W. Brasier, Metropolitan Corps, St John Ambulance Brigade, who was a volunteer. Effective Serving Brothers/Sisters were paid members of staff of the Order. “Honorary” and “Effective” were not used for this award after 1926.
