Collection box for the rebuilding of the Grand Priory Church
In 1941, during the Blitz, the Priory Church took a direct hit from an incendiary bomb. The 12th century crypt below ground survived, but the destruction above ground was significant with just the outer walls of the building still standing. A Rebuilding Committee was quickly established to raise money. By 1957 the Church had been rebuilt, with funds still outstanding for this costly and long project.
