Louis d'Estuart
A painting of this size was very likely used as a decoration in the Auberges of the Order of St John, grand residences in Birgu and Valletta built for each of the Order's eight national Langues. It's possible it may have even hung in the Palace of the Grand Masters but was likely looted from one of these locations during the French occupation in 1798 - 1800.
