Claude de la Sengle
Like those before him, Claude de la Sengle sought to strengthen Maltese defences as the 48th Grand Master, and he completed works on Fort St Elmo started by his predecessor. This fort would play an important role in the Great Siege of Malta in 1565, with Sengle's work nicely preparing his successor, Jean de la Valette, for victory.
