Ferdinand II, Duke of Tuscany
When this painting first came to the Order, the sitter was identified as King Philip III of Spain. This was based on a coat-of-arms of the Prince of Wales in the top right corner. Because his parents were Philip II and Mary Tudor, it was thought their son may have used this insignia. However, the insignia was not original and has since been removed during restoration.
