King George V as Sovereign Head
In preparation for painting this full-size portrait, Edward Caruana Dingli first completed a bozzetto, or sketch, to lay out the composition of the final painting. In this finished piece adjustments and refinements to the overall design can be seen, as well as the addition of medals and insignia and other embellishments to the King's garments.
