Queen Mary I

This medallist, Jacopo da Trezzo, was favoured by King Phillip II of Spain, Mary's husband. He came to England to create this medal in celebration of their Marriage in 1554. The inscription describes Mary as 'Defender of the Faith' after her re-establishment of Catholicism in England, the faith of the Order of St John.
