Melita Insula divi Pauli Apostoli
The Island of St Paul
Printed and circulated in mainland Europe, this narrative map served as a real-time report on the progress of the siege. To quickly produce and circulate maps with up-to-date information, the same copper plates used for printing were reworked, erasing and updating details based on new information received in illustrated reports from Malta. The text box in this example includes shadows of words from a previous version, not fully erased.
