The contents of the annual reports vary as the SJAA evolves into the 1900s but they generally contain reporting on the activities and governance of the Association, Centres in England and Overseas, the Stores Department, the Invalid Transport Corps, railways, mines, ambulance stations, competitions, notable celebrations, changes in staff, SJAA response to disasters and accidents, Territorial Branches, Voluntary Aid Detachments, the Joint War Committee and St John Hospitals. The reports also generally contain appendix sections listing examining staff, donations, subscriptions, life and honorary members, Nominal Roll of Centres, issue of certificates, service medals and awards, detached classes, course syllabi, assorted regulations and instructions on forming SJAA centres. The reports also contain St John Ambulance Brigade and St John Ambulance Brigade Overseas annual reports containing reports of divisions in England and Overseas, instructions on forming SJAB Ambulance and Nursing divisions, Brigade Orders and Circulars. Finally, the reports contain annual reports of St Johns Gate Company Limited.

The reports also contain assorted pamphlets, papers, bulletins, memorandums and meeting/conference proceedings relating topics including first aid, ambulance transport, the Order of St John of Jerusalem, railway accidents, the Red Cross, the expansion of ambulance work to northern counties, Charter of Incorporation, the Police and first aid, the mobilization of the SJAB for service in South Africa, Central British Red Cross Committee, the International Red Cross, ambulance work in India, the formation and work of SJAA generally, the organization of SJAB units overseas. Authors of these papers include John Furley, Vincent Kennett Barrington, Herbert Perrott and Lady Perrott.

The reports also contain Stores Department advertisements and price lists for equipment, textbooks/handbooks/manuals, ambulance and stretchers.
