Contains a history and present position of The Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, 1879; Roll of the Members and Associates of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, 1881; report of The Chapter and forms of bequests, 1880-1881; First Aid to the Injured, St John Ambulance Association Central Executive Committee annual reports including sections on the Stores Department, receipts and expenses, summary of detached classes and lists of members, certificates, donations and annual subscriptions, form of bequest, the formation of a centre, syllabus of instruction, syllabus of lectures to women on home nursing and hygiene, medallion and re-examination regulations, and lists of metropolitan districts and country centres, 1880-1881; instructions for the guidance of Chairmen, Treasurer and Honorary Secretaries of Centres; descriptive history of the St John Ambulance wheeled litter; descriptive history of medals and grants for saving life on land by special acts of bravery.

The volume also contains papers presented at The Order Annual General Assembly on topics including Malta (W.K.R. Bedford), the employment of the hospital patient after discharge (Edmund Lechmere), hospitaller work at St. John's Gate (F. Duncan), the old hospitals of the order (W.K.R. Bedford).
