Includes an address relating to the formation of St John Ambulance Association and a form of subscription to the Association; report of The Chapter of the Order of St John of Jerusalem in England, 1878-1879; Order of St. John of Jerusalem Ambulance Department, Central Committee/Central Executive Committee annual report, including Ambulance Committee report, list of donations and annual subscriptions, syllabus of instruction and a list of country centres, 1878-1879.

The volume also contains papers presented at The Order Annual General Assembly on topics including ambulance operations during the Carlist, Turco-Servian and Turco-Russian Wars (Vincent Kennet-Barrington) and forms of conveyances for sick and wounded in peace and war, (Surgeon Major J.H. Porter).
